IE3 Global Internships
Q: Do I need to be a UW student to participate in an IE3 internship?
A: Yes; you will need to be a matriculated undergraduate (i.e., junior or senior), post baccalaureate or graduate student in order for our office to concurrently enroll you. You may consider postponing your graduation date so that you can include this internship in your degree program.
Q: What are the IE application deadlines?
A:
- Fall Term – April 15
- Winter Term – Sept. 1
- Spring Term – Nov. 15
- Summer Term – Jan. 25
Q: Will I receive UW credit for my internship?
A: Yes; one option is to apply for General Studies 350F (GEN ST 350F) credit through the Carlson Leadership and Public Service Center. GEN ST 350F is graded Cr/NC and there is a maximum of 18 credits you can earn. Each credit requires 30 hours of work and approximately 2 pages of an analytical paper or project. You may also choose to earn credit through another academic department, perhaps within your major.
Q: Do I have to pay UW tuition as well?
A: No; you pay a concurrent enrollment fee of $200 per quarter to the Office of International Education in addition to the program fee in which you submit to the IE3 office. The 2007-2008 fees vary according to the length of the internship:
One term / on UW qtr. (10-15 weeks) = $2750
Two terms / on UW qtr. (up to 6 months) = $4250
Additional Terms = $3650
The IE3 program fee includes:
- Tuition
- Internship placement
- Visa application assistance
- Pre-departure orientation
- Mentoring during the internship
- Medical insurance
The IE3 program fee does not include:
- Airfare
- Housing
- Meals
- Visa fees
Q: Can I use my UW financial aid?
A: Yes; if you are a matriculated student and concurrently enrolled through the OIE, you can access your financial aid and various merit-based scholarships, too. See the IPE Fiscal Team for specifics regarding this process.
